Will receive you in a very professional way, no dull time is passed, relaxed and knows deeply about the details of the tour.

Come and visit the remnants of Lisbon’s oldest wall known as Cerca Moura that fixed the limits and defended Lisbon in the Middle Ages. Starting from Rua do Chão da Feira at the Castle, descending to the river Tagus, we travel through Alfama, Casa dos Bicos, Sé Catedral. We can find nowadays remains of what is known as Lisbon’s oldest wall, called Cerca Moura.

This defensive system must have been built by the Moor when they occupied the territory, most probably between the beginning of the 10th Century and 1147, when the troops of D. Afonso de Henriques, first king of Portugal, conquered the town from the Moor. Cerca Moura included in its interior the important Alcáçova and the Moor Medina, and was built during an important period of the town’s urban and commercial growth, that had entered into decline with the instability of the former barbaric invasions, up to the conquest of the territory by Islam in 719. Some theories point inclusively to a construction dating from the period of the Roman occupation that would have been used later by the Moor.
Currently some parts of this vast wall as well as some towers are visible. The “Cerca Velha” that delimited and defended Lisbon in the Middle Ages is recreated in a signed pedestrian itinerary that passes by the Castle, Alfama, Casa dos Bicos and Sé Catedral, descending towards the River Tagus.
