Description

Évora is the capital of the south-central region of Portugal, the Alentejo. In the historical center of the city is the ancient Roman Temple of Évora (also known as Temple of Diana). Nearby, whitewashed houses surround the Cathedral of Évora, an enormous Gothic structure begun in the 12th century. The Church of San Francisco has Gothic and Baroque architecture, along with the Capela dos ossos. Its well-preserved historic center is one of the richest monuments in Portugal, worth the epithet of City-Museum. In 1986, the historic center of the city was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. In this tour you can leisurely walk in the historical center of Évora in Praça do Giraldo, an icon in honor of Geraldo Geraldes, the ""No-Fear man"", because it conquered Évora to the Moors in 1167. Visit the Cathedral of Évora, the largest medieval cathedral in Portugal and has no parallel in the rest of the country. The Temple of Diana, one of the the most grandiose and best preserved Roman temples of the entire Iberian Peninsula.
