Lisbon and the Tagus

The circuit of Lisbon and the Tagus tells us about the connection of the Portuguese with the sea, since Lisbon owes much of its glory to the Tagus River.
We will therefore walk along the coastline, while admiring some of the most beautiful
Portuguese monuments, beginning with the Tower of Belém. This defensive structure allowed the Portuguese caravels to reach land safely, when coming back from their journeys at sea. We will then talk about the first crossing of the Atlantic Ocean, executed by Gago Coutinho and we shall observe the aviation instrument used by this last one. We will also pay a visit to the Monument to the Discoveries which celebrates the glorious conquest of new territories by the Portuguese navigators, followed by Empire’s Fountain, located in front of the most glorious monastery in Portugal: the Monastery of Saint Jerome, recognized by UNESCO as Cultural Heritage in 1983.
To end our journey, focusing on the relationship of the city of light with the river, we will make a stop at Christ the Redeemer’s Belvedere, where we will enjoy a panoramic view over the entire city
of Lisbon. With the sunset as our background, we will end the day at the Nations Park, created in 1998. In a cable car experience, you’ll enjoy a privileged view of the New Lisbon.
